The mountain is calling!
Even in high season, Riffian is a quiet and sleepy village and not as crowded as the well-known neighbouring villages of Dorf Tirol or Schenna. Nevertheless, Riffian is beautifully situated and offers a wonderful view of Schenna and the surrounding mountains. We are just a 10-minute drive from the famous spa town of Meran. With a perfect mix of Mediterranean climate and alpine scenery, the city on the Passer river delights visitors with its historic Art Nouveau buildings, playful villas and rustic castles. The so-called “Lauben” form the center of the town: a historic shopping street with many boutiques and cafés. As you explore the town, you will often come across the Empress Sissi of Austria, who visited Meran several times and has made the city famous beyond the country’s borders. You can meet the empress on a walk through the Sissi Park or on a trip to the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. The latter are the largest and most beautiful botanic gardens in Italy with an incredible variety of flowers, trees and exotic plants.
Another highlight in the area is the Terme Meran. With 15 indoor pools open all year round and 10 outdoor pools in summer, Terme Meran not only boasts a wonderfully relaxing sauna world, but also stylishly designed relaxation areas and a large outdoor sunbathing lawn. This is a wonderful place to spend time, especially with bad weather.

A little further away – but definitely worth a day trip – are the world-famous Dolomites. The Dolomites have been a UNESCO World Heritage since 2009. A particularly characteristic feature of this mountain range is the abrupt change between rugged cliffs and gentle alpine pastures. Their unique, monumental beauty attracts hiking fans from all over the world to South Tyrol year after year.
